In this lesson, we looked at the different types of job roles you can get in the gaming industry and the job hierarchy. We then were given a power point where we created a chart on the different job roles and a diagram for the job hierarchy.
This is a graph I made which listed all the different Job types in the gaming industry
Gaming Industry Hierarchy

2 Jobs from the Gaming Industry
For this homework, I had to write about the two different jobs in the gaming industry. One Job from the gaming industry I chose to write about was about Concept Artists.
Concept Artists job is to create visual images of ideas for animations, comic books, games, and many others. Concept artists work with other art departments to make sure the right visual style is shown in each part of the project. The qualifications you need for becoming a Concept Artist include experience with concept art, an understanding of colour theory and palette create and the technical qualification include the use of computer animation tools such as Maya, SketchUp, Painter or Photoshop. The average salary reported by Simply Hired was $42,000 per year.
Another Job from the game industries is voice actors. The job of a voice actor is to record your voice in a recording booth to then provide the voice to the character in the game. Former education isn't required to start a career as a voice actor. A Bachelors' Degree or training in acting may be vital in becoming a voice actor. The skills needed to voice actor include being able to act, technical knowledge and be business savvy. A voice actor could be working for a few hours at a time, once a month. According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean hourly wage for a voice actor was $33.82.
David Jaffe
20/11/18
On a Tuesday 20th, we did an interview with David Jaffe where he gave us job advice and his experience in the gaming industry. He suggested, "it's easier to get your name out working with smaller companies". He also suggested, "it's more about talent and less about school grades from his experience". His last piece of advice was that "working hard and having good ideas will help you get noticed".

31/11/18 Company types involved in the gaming industry
In this lesson, we learned about the different company types in the gaming industry, as well as vertical and horizontal integration. Firstly we defined to roles of developers, publishers, and Distributors.
Developers are responsible for creating/developing the game/product. Examples of Developers in the gaming industry include Infinity Ward, Arc System Works, Capcom etc.
Publishers are responsible for putting their game out there for the customers and for marketing the product. Examples of publishers in the gaming industry include EA, Ubisoft, Square Enix etc.
Distributors are responsible for selling the game/product. Distributors sell the product into shops and online websites e.g. Origin, Amazon, Psn, and Steam.
We then learned about Vertical and Horizontal Integration.
Vertical Integration is when one company owns the different stages of development to create a game. An example of vertical integration is Sony.
